Galleria del Prado
Madrid, Spain
Between 1985 and 1988 Mr. Amenta designed an 110,000 square foot two-level fashion shopping gallery within the Palace Hotel. The leasing configuration results from the existing structure supporting a stained glass dome in the Grand Salon directly above. Mr. Amenta provided a merchandise concept focused on the wealthy international traveler seeking Spain-based fashion and food. Mr. Amenta introduced percentage rent and common area maintenance fees, use clauses and other lease provisions of US shopping centers not commonly accepted in Spain at that time. |
The tenants include the jewelry and the most fashionable women's and men's apparel in Spain. The hotel itself is an historic Bell Époque grand hotel, which has hosted the most prominent of celebrities and political figures. The project architect was DRAU, SA based in Barcelona based architect. The hotel was purchased by H.H. the Aga Khan for Ciga Hotels during the period surrounding the grand opening and Mr. Amenta was invited to assist with the design and development retail at the Porto Cervo "piazetta" and the Villagio Marina.
